IF I WON I WOULD...
If I won the BA free flights I would take my group Katy Carr and The Aviators to play at The Folk Alliance International Music Conference [FA] in Memphis,via Chicago, USA [to play gigs] February 2010.
In February 2009 we attended the FA due to sponsorship from British Music Abroad & the PRSF Performing Rights Society. However due to the way these funds operate we can not apply to attend this conference twice. Great steps have this already been made with regards establishing music business, creative interest networks for our music at the FA 2009 & we sincerely hope to have the opportunity to attend the FA music convention again in Feb 2010. With the release of our 3rd album on November 9th 2009 and the creation of a buzz here in the UK we hope to monopolise on the growing interest& look to release and license our music in the States and thus tour there in the Autumn of 2010.
We are hoping to attend the 2010 FA for a number of reasons to:
> continue creating platforms upon which we can perform our music and thus create support in a territory and market that is so far undiscovered by our band in terms of performing live albeit for a few taster performances;
> follow up music Industry interest already procured through networking opportunities offered by the event from our previous attendance in Feb 2009
> network extensively & meet with the relevant professionals attending the Conference to secure future performing possibilities;
>represent a very British kind of music in the US & cultivate creative relations;
>continue building alliances with other artists performing at the Folk Alliance with the hope of creating touring opportunities here as well;
> build relations with British Airways & the BA sponsorship department with regards to developing opportunities to allign our music and interest in Aviation with BA endorsement.
Katy Carr & the Aviators play music inspired by themes from the 1940s, Vaudeville, gritty British folklore mixed with a dose of 21st technology
MY STORY
Hi - I am Katy Carr, a London based songwriter and performer who has released two albums on my own label Deluce Recordings. ‘Screwing Lies,’ 2001 and ‘Passion Play’ 2003 with a third album entitled ‘Coquette’ coming out in November 2009
I have been independently releasing records for nearly a decade now. I have learnt many great lessons and met lots of great people. Every moment I am involved with the music world I am so grateful and constantly thank my lucky stars! When I was a teenager I wanted to be a Pilot for the RAF and was obsessively involved with The Air Training Corps learning to fly gliders, single engined planes so my interest was rather with Aviation than with the entertainment business. It was only when I went to university to study Music that i started to get a hunger for performing and recording music.
It is with great pleasure that now I can talk about my third album 'Coquette' which draws upon my love of all things connected with aviation, aerial and star like. I recorded this record in a bedroom studio with producer Nick Crofts opposite the 1936 Grade II listed Odeon Art Deco cinema in Muswell Hill, North London. The album is a carefully crafted album of beauty honing the talents of both myself Katy Carr’s song writing and the vast spectrum of contemporary sonic delights that ‘Crofty’ adds together with the high quality of additional musicians we have pulled out of London’s woodwork. The songs on ‘Coquette’ have been primarily inspired by themes, stories, characters and music from Britain, France, Germany and Poland in the 1940s.
