IF I WON I WOULD...

Use the tickets to fly my family out to Antigua to witness my arrival after my record-breaking 4 weeks Atlantic crossing at sea.

MY STORY

I left school at 16 to work in the yachting industry. Within 2 years I had sailed over 30,000 miles including 3 trans-Atlantic crossings. At the age of 18, I had a swimming accident and broke my neck, paralysing me from the shoulders down. 5 years later, I helped set up and became Chairman of the national disabled sailing charity, RYA Sailability, a charity that now helps 20,000 disabled people go sailing each year.

In 2007 I became the first disabled person to sail single-handed around Great Britain. I was voted BBC South Sports Personality of the Year and nominated for the Daily Telegraph Great Britain of the Year and Yachtsman of the Year.

My next Challenge is to sail the Atlantic Ocean single-handed. In December 2009, I will set sail in a 60ft, purpose-built, wheelchair-accessible catamaran on a voyage across the Atlantic Ocean. The 2,700 mile journey will take me up to a month to complete, across some of the most hostile waters in the world. In completing my Challenge, I will become the first quadriplegic to make the journey, unassisted in every aspect of the sailing.

It will be a matter of complex logistics for the shore-based support team and a feat of personal endurance and sailing skills for me.

An official departure with a delivery crew from the UK to the Canary Islands will take place at the Southampton Boat Show in September 2009 with Princess Anne. The boat will set sail from the Canary Islands to the Caribbean in December 2009, arriving January 2010

True Leaders are winners! Geoff...I have read your book which my mother lent me. You signed it personally for her at a recent event you spoke at for PHAB. Oddly enough..you have the power to achieve more than any Prime Minister...simply because you lead from the front and with your Heart...not your ego! I guess your next venture is with Richard Branson??? (there is lots of water on Mars!). You have an Army behind you :) Joe

Well done Geoff, fantastic what you can do when you put your mind to it! I've read the book and draw huge inspiration from what you have achieved. I wish you every success in your Personal Atlantic Challenge and hope that some of the misadventures experienced at the start of Personal Everest don't come back to haunt you - though I expect you would find a funny side to it if it did!!! Go Geoff and the team! Cheers Tim

I met Geoff Holt at the Ally Pally dinghy exhibition and was truly humbled by what he has achieved. The thought of him setting out to sail the Atlantic on a catamaran is mind blowing. Go Geoff ... and keep safe for your wife and son. Hope they get the free flight. No one deserves it more.

Please vote for this amzaing inspirational guy so his family can be there in Antigua when he completes his record breaking sail across the Atlantic. Battle of Britain Pilot lends his support to Geoff Holt's bid to cross the Atlantic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCSXO6FK6i8 As Geoff says, "It's not about being disabled. It's not about sailing the Atlantic Ocean. It's about demonstrating that disability need not be a barrier to achieving something positive in your life"

Geoff tells his story about how he became a quadraplegic and what he has done with his life since then in a matter of fact way. There is not a hint of self pity or self praise, just eye watering courage and determination. He is truly inspirational in the purest sense of the word. I'd join his team tomorrow. Alan H

An inspirational Great Briton who simply wants to fly his wife and son to the finishing line while he travels the hard way - sailing single handed across the hostile Atlantic ocean in winter. Oh, did I forget to mention that he's quadraplegic? Vote now.

I've worked with Geoff - and he's one of the most inspirational people you could hope to meet. His sailing escapades are awe-inspiring - but then so is the way he brings his adventures alive in both his book ("Walking on Water") and the motivational talks he does with audiences around the country. His credo is "no excuses" - and if ever there was a "Great Briton", it's Geoff. Oh, and he's a great bloke too...with a wicked sense of humour! He absolutely gets my vote.
